Through a community engagement process in 2017, this property was named the Awethu House. “Amandla Awethu!”, a popular rallying cry in the days of resistance against apartheid, loosely translates to “Power to the People”, which is fitting for this historic property on Auburn Avenue. Extending less than two miles eastward from Peachtree Street, Auburn Avenue was the commercial, cultural, and spiritual center of African American life in Atlanta prior to the civil rights movement. The Awethu House was developed with a historic and cultural preservation lens and is home to community-minded individuals and organizations. It consists of 2 suites dedicated to moderate-income individuals, 3-4 market rate suites, and 1-2 “Airbnb” style short-term suites. The short-term rentals help us subsidize the lower membership and our community programming, while also helping us create meaningful experiences that bring together the traveling changemaker with Atlanta’s homegrown impact ecosystem.

On the first floor (below our coliving suites), we have Atlanta Breakfast Club, a black-owned joint serving delicious chicken & waffles, and equitably sourced single-origin coffee from Guatemala. We also have Remerge, a community building and activating faith-based nonprofit with a design studio and coworking space. In addition to a living space, your Guild membership gives you access to curated events from community dinners, to social justice tours, and events that help you live a life of purpose — the program is designed so you build deep relationships with your neighbors and invest in this historic community.

Thoughtfully designed private suites

Rooms with character to complement the neighborhood's cultural history

Choose between a furnished or unfurnished suite designed to accommodate a vibrant living space with ample sunlight, a full kitchenette, and a bathroom. The delicate balance between historical,  modern, and all-natural is evident down to the last detail and furnishing  — vintage sinks in the bathroom, exposed brick and concrete, purifying house plants, and wall accents by local artists all add rich character to your home.

Co-working

Shared workspace and an online community of support

Your membership includes access to shared desks in a small coworking space as well as an online Slack community to help you crush your goals and share resources.

A sense of community and civic engagement

Guild members recognize and value our interdependence

Whether you've had a long day at work and are looking to unwind with your neighbors, struggling in your entrepreneurial journey and need a sounding board, or looking to become more civically engaged so you can positively impact your neighborbood, The Guild community — which extends beyond our members to other community individuals and organizations we engage — offers an environment where you can feel at home and in community.

Historic preservation and affordability

Designing for inclusion

The building itself has been renovated  by our real estate partner Good Places in accordance with State Historic Preservation regulations. We have two suites with lower monthly memberships, designated for residents with income levels between 60% and 80% of the area median income. There is no difference in terms of quality of space and programming between the membership levels.

A word on art

Artists brighten up and bring depth to our spaces

All suites have artistic accents or murals by local artists and artists from underrepresented backgrounds. Pictured here is a mural in one of our suites by Detroit-based artist, Barber, who says this: "my process is practice-based supporting cultural shifts that bring about the dreamed society in which we hope to live. My hope is that the non-identity of my figures become tools used to expose and dismantle the failures of social constructs concerning race and identity."
